The Bishan Green Island Villa is not just a showroom; it is a reflection of the region's rich cultural heritage and the designer's commitment to preserving it. The villa's name is inspired by an ancient classic that describes the region's white stones as "glossy and smooth as jade." This cultural reference is not lost in the design of the villa. Hu has used traditional oriental philosophy as his design language, creating a space that is both modern and deeply rooted in tradition.
The villa is the first Engineering Procurement Construction (EPC) project by H DESIGN, a process that includes design, construction, soft decoration, and purchase. The result is a space that is not only aesthetically pleasing but also functional. The villa is a four-storey building that includes a living dining room, lounge area, family room, and mahjong parlor, among other spaces. The design of each space is carefully thought out to create a harmonious balance between form and function.
One of the standout features of the villa is the exquisite and delicate background wall on the first floor. The wall uses two types of carved wooden veneers to transmit light, making the blossoming peony on the dark wood look lively. This unique design element adds a touch of elegance and appeal to the space. The villa also features a lounge area on the B1 level, which is the highlight of the project. The designer has used dark wooden furniture tinged with a little metal in a lofty space, refining the oriental aesthetics in a comfortable and natural manner.
The villa's design also incorporates modern concise lines, creating a visually stunning space that is both comfortable and inviting. The family room on the second floor, for example, presents a secluded spiritual land that reveals the implicit beauty of oriental aesthetics. The background wash painting of landscape in the room represents the owner's detached and peaceful life attitude, making life instantly poetic.
The Bishan Green Island Villa is a testament to Kevin Hu's innovative approach to design. The villa was awarded Silver in A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2018, a prestigious accolade that recognizes top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs. This award is a testament to Hu's outstanding expertise and innovation in design.
Overall, the Bishan Green Island Villa is more than just a design project; it is a celebration of the region's rich cultural heritage and a testament to the designer's commitment to preserving it. The villa is a perfect example of how design can be used to create spaces that are not only functional but also aesthetically pleasing and culturally significant.
